Concept Explanation

Triangular Arrangement - Facing Centre and Outside

Seating Arrangement: Arrangement is the positioning of things, persons, etc. in a particular order. Seating arrangement is the manner in which people are arranged to sit around a table, in a row etc.

Triangular Arrangement - Facing Centre and Outside: In a triangular arrangement, persons are arranged around a triangle, according to certain conditions. Here we are discussing the arrangement in which some people are sitting around a triangle facing away from the centre of the triangle or we can say facing outside and some are sitting with their faces towards the centre. They may be a situation in which certain objects are placed instead of persons in a triangular order. In triangular arrangement when the persons are facing outside.  Right means Clockwise Direction and Left means Anti-clockwise Direction where as when the persons are facing towards the centre Right means Anti-clockwise Direction and Left means Clockwise Direction

Illustration:  Six persons- L, M, N, P, R and S are sitting around a triangular table. Three of them sit at the corner of the table and three of them are sits at the middle of the side. Three of them facing center and three of them are facing outward of the table.

  • N sits at corner seat and faces towards the center. Only one person sits between R and N.
  • P and R are immediate neighbor but none of them sits at immediate seat of N.
  • S sits second to the left of R.
  • N sits at immediate right corner of S.
  • L faces inside. M who is an immediate neighbor of R sits second to the right of P.
  • Question : What is the position of P with respect to M?

    A. Third to the left        B. Fifth to the right           C. Second to the left        D.  None of these

    Answer: B

Solution: According to the first statement it is given that N sits at corner seat and faces towards the center. Only one person sits between R and N. So there can be two possibilities as shown in Figure I and Figure II.

    Figure I

    Figure II

In the next statement it is given that P and R are immediate neighbor but none of them sits at immediate seat of N. So according to the figure I P can be placed as shown in Figure III and according to Figure II P can be placed as shown in Figure IV.

    Figure III

    Figure IV

In the next statement it is given that S sits second to the left of R. This can be possible only when R is facing inwards otherwise that place is occupied by N . So according to the Figure III S can be placed as shown in Figure V and according to Figure IV S can be placed as shown in Figure VI.

    Figure V

    Figure VI

In the next statement it is given that N sits at immediate right corner of S. This can be possible only when S is facing outwards in Figure V which is shown in figure VII and S is facing inwards in Figure VI which is shown in Figure VIII.

    Figure VII

    Figure VIII

In the next statement it is given that L faces inside. M who is an immediate neighbor of R sits second to the right of P.  On placing L and M in Figure VII we get figure IX and from Figure VIII we get Figure X.

    Figure IX

    Figure X

In Figure IX we see that four persons are facing inside, but this is not possible because it is given in the question only three are facing inside and hence it is eliminated . So the final Figure will be.

We will solve the question using the figure, as we know that M is facing outside and his left means anticlockwise also there is one person R between M and P so the position of P with respect to M is Second to the left. Hence the correct option is B.
